"We grew to love our commissioned artwork. If I was ever in the market for another piece of art, I would call Mada immediately and only if she absolutely refused the business would I work with anyone else."

"Commissioning artwork from Mada Leach was a good experience that resulted in a wonderful new piece for our home. We are delighted to recommend commissioned art from Mada Leach."

The story of a unique commission:

"A mixed media art piece came into being in a very unusual fashion. A client approached me with a need for a special piece of art that was needed for her office. She had a subject in mind, Continuity. In discussing her preferences, we settled on calligraphy symbols centering around the theme of continuity. These word symbols were done in calligraphy by her mother on archival paper, and incorporated into the piece. Not only does she have a unique piece of art for her office, but the work incorporates the hand of her mother."....Mada

Is a commissioned piece of art
right for you?

A commissioned artwork may be a solution to a problem space or special need of the client. A partnership between client and artist can produce very individualized artwork through a collaborative process. In such a case, two heads may be better than one. For the client who has not had the experience of working with an artist, it should be mentioned that the process is often great fun, and sometimes results in social friendships between client and artist.

Five easy steps to a commisssion:

1. A meeting happens with the artist and client in which the client needs are identified.

2. The artist conceptualizes designs based on discussion with the client and provides the client with two small designs called maquettes for the client to consider. At this point, client can redefine needs and request one to two design changes.

3. The artist reworks design concept and presents for client approval. Client signs and dates maquette and gives artist a deposit for one third of the agreed on price. Commission prices usually average 10% above the regular price structure for artist, due to the extra time necessary to customize the artwork.

4. The artist develops artwork and calls a client consultation half way through the project to review the work with the customer. At this point the client has a chance to request a few minor changes to the existing work, and a second third deposit is made to the artist.

5. On completion of the work and delivery to the client, the artist is paid in full.

The purpose of these five steps is to avoid surprises for both artist and client and create just the right artwork for the client.
